Course Description

Primary care physicians play a crucial role in mental health care, yet systemic barriers often lead to long waits for psychiatric support. Layla®’s CME series bridges this gap with free, real-time access to psychiatrists through interactive virtual sessions.

Optimize Psychiatric Medication Management:
  • Participants will implement evidence-based strategies for initiating, monitoring, and tapering psychiatric medications, including supporting patients with comorbid conditions and managing transitions between medications.
  • Linked CanMEDS-FM Role: Scholar –Apply evidence-based approaches to medication management and improve outcomes in complex cases identified during the needs assessment.
Strengthen Patient-Centered Communication:
  • Participants will learn strategies to hone in on communication skills to address sensitive mental health topics, fostering shared decision-making in treatment plans.
  • Linked CanMEDS-FM Role: Communicator – Build trust and collaboration through empathetic, culturally sensitive dialogue tailored to specific mental health conditions.
 Incorporate Diverse Patient Perspectives:
  • Participants will learn approaches to integrate diverse cultural and patient perspectives into their approach to diagnosing and treating mental health conditions. 
  • Linked CanMEDS-FM Role: Professional – Commit to ethical, culturally informed care practices.
