Course Description

Primary care physicians frequently encounter patients experiencing somatic symptom disorder and illness anxiety disorder, where persistent physical complaints or health-related fears lack a clear medical explanation. These conditions are often time-consuming, emotionally taxing, and among the most challenging to diagnose and treat.

Layla®’s CME series addresses this gap by providing access to psychiatrists through interactive virtual sessions. Physicians will explore evidence-based models for understanding somatic symptoms and illness anxiety disorders, gain practical strategies for effective management, and learn approaches that support both patient care and physician well-being.

Enhance Diagnostic and Treatment Skills:

  • Participants will improve their ability to identify and manage somatic symptom disorder and illness anxiety disorder in primary care.

Strengthen Patient-Centered Communication:

  • Participants will develop practical communication approaches to validate patient concerns and build therapeutic alliances that support long-term management of somatic symptom disorder and illness anxiety disorder.

Incorporate Diverse Patient Perspectives:

  • Participants will recognize and integrate cultural, social, and individual factors influencing symptom expression and treatment engagement, tailoring care to diverse patient populations.

This program has received an unrestricted educational grant or in-kind support from Layla Care.
